Program Overview
The Career Launch Initiative is an educational workforce development program established by the Opportunity & Equity Foundation to prepare individuals with disabilities for successful employment, career exploration, postsecondary education, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and long-term economic independence. The Foundation created the Career Launch Initiative to address employment barriers and expand career opportunities for individuals with disabilities by providing practical workforce readiness education, career development resources, and meaningful connections with employers, educators, and community partners. The program is designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and professional competencies necessary to successfully transition into the workforce and achieve long-term career success.
Goals
To expand employment opportunities, increase economic mobility, promote self-sufficiency, and empower individuals with disabilities to pursue meaningful careers, higher education, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and lifelong success.
Eligibility
Open to all. Free whenever possible. Financial assistance or fee waivers available if nominal fees are ever necessary.
Who This Serves
Individuals of all ages with intellectual, developmental, physical, sensory, learning, and other disabilities, as well as their families, caregivers, educators, and interested community members.
Benefits
Workforce readiness skills, employer connections, career confidence, and practical tools for successful employment and career advancement. Instruction combines classroom education, hands-on activities, mock interviews, panel discussions, and employer presentations.
Services Provided
Career exploration, resume development, employment applications, interview preparation and mock interviews, professional communication, workplace etiquette, leadership development, teamwork, time management, self-advocacy, requesting workplace accommodations, college and career planning, trade school and vocational education, apprenticeship programs, entrepreneurship, networking, workplace safety, and financial preparation for employment.
Schedule
Offered one to two times each year, or as funding, partnerships, and community needs permit. Approximately 30–100 participants per workshop.
Location
Community centers, libraries, schools, colleges, workforce development centers, nonprofit organizations, business facilities, and other accessible community locations throughout Arkansas.
Cost
Free whenever possible. Fee waivers available if needed.
